The Pleb Lab further east on 6th St was next to an old factory that had been turned into luxury apartments. Occasionally I'd see one of the tenants, in colorful silk pajamas and fluffy slides, take two dogs of this breed out. They were probably super depressed being cooped up in an apartment.

Apparently not, though I bet the real working dogs, if they still exist, don't have elaborate coats like that.
Oh my. That dog's hair looks like a string mop. He has to be a nightmare to bathe.
Can you imagine how heavy they would be when they are wet?
And drying them....gives me nightmares already!
