If one considers that Germany contributes almost half of the EU budget, is now in recession and is being actively pursued by the EU in a conflict with Russia, one of the important energy arteries, the gas pipeline with Russia has been blown up and it has inherited a perishable invasion crisis from the EU, which is not making any effort to protect its borders, it is questionable whether this budget can be maintained in the long term.

It's only a part of the picture, it seems.
There are voices that 80-90% of budgets for EU projects in Poland - are done by German companies. So money come back, in fact.

Interesting, I would have thought that Italy would be on the recipient side

I thought Norway, Finland, and Sweden would be contributing more. There are a lot of net negatives on that image, they need to get their act together.
