Yep and so are sanctions. But also many governments have tariffs but don't go to war.
I hope the tariff thing is mostly a negotiation thing. Many people don't know that Biden upheld the China tarrifs. I mean, it's a tax and it drives up prices for goods just like all taxes. It's just harder to see.

How do you define any war? With escalation. If I take one cannon shot at you and you take one cannon shot at me and we stop. That's not a war. If it escalates to regular shots and escalation then there's a war. Is it not the same with tariffs and trade?

Its pretty obvious that much of Trump's money support is in hopes he will amp up the MIC over the "China threat". Big beautiful ships as Adam Curry says.
