I think it's something like "People hate war, because it's so horrific. Soldiers go through that horror on behalf of others."
There's truth to that, which is why I have a hard time hating soldiers to the same degree that I hate war. When they enlist (assuming they weren't drafted), they're usually dumb propagandized teenagers. Then, they're put through hell and many act with extreme courage.
That they never should have been in those situations doesn't change how courageous they may have been.
It's tricky. End the wars and we won't have to sort this out.

Very nice line. I agree with this; they suffer as much as everyone else. Soldiers too are among the most affected victims of wars and their families as well.
