Some of my thoughts:
  • build pipelines north, east, and west. National emergency and expedite development to reach global markets
  • eliminate inter-provincial trade restrictions
  • capitulate with USA demands and fortify border / crackdown on fentanyl related crime
The 4th or 5th largest state doesn't have the resources to be self-sustaining, not while maintaining a decent standard of living for its people anyway... it's ascension into the US is inevitable.
Tariffs are just the tip of the iceberg, Trump hasn't even mentioned Five-Eyes and countless other welfare programs yet... we're still slow-walking.
It took till today for him to mention Banking in Canada... drip drip

Radically deregulate the economy, including your second bullet point. If that leads to extra pipelines, great.

Should have added:
Pivot away from pandering globalist climate change and woke bullshit and focus on developing the nations greatest assets - natural resources
Canada should be as rich as middle eastern countries if it could get out of its own way.
Ironically this tariff crises might be the kick in its ass that was needed to make the left realize how vulnerable we are when we don’t develop energy access to trade globally

Absolutely.
I edited out a comment about exploring statehood, that was predicated on there being no reason that Canada shouldn't be much more prosperous than it is.

Lemme see, they will probably offer all their citizens suicide by government?

Is what trump is asking for unreasonable?

He has some valid points but a lot of it is changing goal posts and lacking context.
More can definitely be done on crime and fentanyl.
The trade deficit is driven by us selling oil to you at a major discount to global prices. This benefits America greatly as you get to refine it and capture all the margin when either exporting the refined product or even selling it back to us.
Remove energy and it’s a trade surplus.
If Canada was smart we’d have other options to sell our oil outside of the USA and therefore won’t need to accept a perpetual discount on our prices. This is 100% due to woke retardation and anti development policies in the name of climate change that has left us vulnerable to only having one option.
Out of anything the biggest driver is a personal issue he has with Trudeau but the result is punishing the entire nation as well as components of the American economy that have benefit from trade.

Since Trump will likely exclude oil from his import tariffs, you should introduce export tariffs on oil. Help him balance the trade deficit until he's had enough help.

Bend the knee.

Seems like Trump asked about something behind the curtain, and they refused. Mexico decided to help with border problem and tarrifs lifted down. If Canada won't give US their "maple syrup" we'll witness new episode of great movie

Banish Trudeau to the upper Yukon territory with a solemn promise that he is never heard from again? It might work.
reply
To some extent I think Trudeau and the libs are wanting to escalate this trade war for political gain
