Argentine lawyers have reportedly filed charges against Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, in a criminal court for promoting a cryptocurrency that briefly pumped and then tanked over the weekend.
The Libertad project’s native Solana token, Libra (LIBRA), rallied to a market capitalization of $4.56 billion on Feb. 14, after Milei posted about the token on X. It then fell over 94% after he deleted the post, prompting accusations of a pump and dump scheme.
Lawyers Marcos Zelaya and Jonatan Baldiviezo, along with engineer María Eva Koutsovitis and economist Claudio Lozano, have filed a criminal complaint that alleges Milei was complicit in fraud by promoting Libra, according to a Feb. 17 Associated Press report.
So much for expertise!! Just because you are an expert economist does not mean you are a knowledgeable person in regards to ishtcoins or even BTC. Milei got caught up in something that all the lawyers will try to say is an intended crime. I think that a bit of caveat emptor is in order here. Why should anybody rush out to buy a ishtcoin immediately after it hits the market. Only fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
Like I always said: you play with shit... you smell like shit :)

Worse yet, you get it all over your hands and fingers, too! :) What a mess for Milei. He was doing well for the Argentinian people.

Trump basically did the same thing but somehow got away with it

He didn’t have a rug pull did he?
reply
Not sure if he pulled the rug but launching a meme coin where 80% is held on one wallet is already very shady. And promoting something like that as a president, preying on people who will fall for it and get burned, is very unethical.

Do we chalk it up to malevolence or stupidity? Is he a practiced con-man or is he a complete noobie to cryptocoins? If he is a complete noob, does he know or did he know the best person to take advice from or not? I am not really willing to call it an ethical lapse if he didn’t know what was really happening other than some theif’s sweat words. Maybe he should have stuck to BTC!
reply
Maybe Trump really didn't know any better. Then he should have done his due diligence before promoting something.
Maybe he should have stuck to BTC!
Yes, for sure!

My thought is that none of these politicians really know about, let alone be expert in cryptocoins leads them to lend their names to projects lead by smooth talking con-men. I think once enough of them get burned this way, they will quit endorsing any kind of dubious projects, no matter what they are. But, yes, they should all have done their due diligence, not only once, but, twice.
