That seems like a reasonable price. My parents needed a new roof about 7 or 8 years ago and they paid something similar (around 30k Canadian). I had a neighbour who was a roofer when I lived in the city and he complained that most roofers bullshit people to sell them new roofs when they can actually repair so my only suggestion would be next time get another opinion before you sign.
Friends of mine bought a geodesic dome house and quickly learned that it needed a new roof. Those houses are entirely roof and extremely non-standard at that.
I believe it cost them about $60k and led to them running an Air BnB operation out of their basement.

I think it was a minor fad in like the 70's or something. They're pretty cool, but maintenance is a nightmare, as is getting home insurance.

It was cheaper, because of those other issues, and they did think it looked cool.
The main reason was that it was available in their price range, within driving distance to work. They had just moved for new jobs and had been spending an unsustainable amount on short-term rentals or motels.

I wonder what the resale value of a geodesic dome is.
Interesting homes fascinate me. When we lived in the city and my daughter was young (still in a stroller) there was this massive crazy angular house at the end of the street from where my wife's doctor was that we often walked past. All those home were 1-2M homes and then this monstrosity that is 5x the size of the other homes but who would buy it?
Yeah. The whole up-sale thing I was worried about. But this house is always falling part. Knowing how cheap they went with the bathroom and kitchen I knew the roof was going to be an issue sooner or later
