I've had a 401k since before I got into bitcoin, but a large part of me feels like I'm just throwing money away. I'm investing into a fiat system that I expect to fail.
How about you guys? Are you spread out, or all in on bitcoin?
Yes 50.0%
No 50.0%

Besides bitcoin I just own some (micro)strategy options contracts. Ditched the 401k, but rolled over just a bit into a self directed IRA to play with options. The options dabbling has treated me very well, though I'm not sure I would count it as diversification.

Do you at least have the option of bitcoin ETF in your 401k?
reply
I don't.

I have a retirement account with a bunch of ETFs and equities which is about 1/3 bitcoin ETFs. Outside of that I no longer hold any equities. I sold everything I held during the last bear market and bought Bitcoin with the proceeds.
I also own some physical gold and silver from before I was into bitcoin. I have held on to it but havenโ€™t bought any in 5 years.

Are you spread out, or all in on bitcoin? What does "yes" mean?

More like diworsify

Yea, it feels like throwing money on a fire. I'm not sure if I should just pull it all out and put it in bitcoin.
What does the economist think, considering the penalties for taking it out.

not familiar enough with the specific U.S. rules about 401(k)s or withdrawals.
Unless it's a major portion of your wealth (i.e., it's much, much bigger than all your BTC or what you could expect to earn in the next few years), I would probably just keep it around as a backup.
My country forces me to pay into a 401(k)-like pension system (and gives me ~25% tax discounts for additional contributions), so while I don't max that out all the time (hashtag cashflow) I'm happy to keep it around as a bitcoin-failsafe protection. Basically: let's posit (as market prices are telling us these days) that I'm completely wrong about bitcoin. At least I won't starve in old age.
reply
I haven't been putting into 401k for long, it's really not much. Maybe I'll just leave it. If you take it out early you pay 10% fee plus capital gains tax.
reply
Probably keep it, then
I actually donโ€™t.
My country mandates that we contribute part of our salary to a nationwide compulsory retirement annuity plan called the Central Provident Fund.
I also have some fixed deposits, government bonds and treasury bills. I doubt my country will adopt BTC anytime soon, so I just find converting fiat to BTC to fiat very silly and cumbersome

"Always and weighing that the world ๐ŸŒŽ ๐ŸŒ is badly distributed" and sincerely it is not a complaint.
But when I see cases like this, it is inevitable to think about that phrase. You with 400k and with Bitcoin's knowledge, and you don't know what to do, and I know people who may know what to do but have a hard time arriving at the end of the month.

Spread out a little.
50% Bitcoin. 25% small house that I live in and also rent the spare rooms. 25% 401k, IRA, and personal brokerage.
reply
I have a house and mandatory superannuation no separate stocks or anything else. I did have bitcoin but I lost my keys on that boat trip
reply
I diversify out of the fact that those old fiat investments are stuck in that system until pensionable age i check on them from time to time but I basically consider it zero

Nope.
Diversifying is just selling the winners to buy the losers.
I'm all in on Bitcoin.
reply
Yes.... I'm still like 50% normie
