Canada is not the 51st state quite yet, so we still have provincial elections and the one for Ontario (where I live) is today.
Incumbent, Doug Ford of the Progressive Conservative Party will face off against Liberal Party leader Bonnie Crombie, New Democratic Party leader Marit Stiles, and the Green Party leader Mike Schreiner. I am sure there will be a couple other options on the ballot. We do have a libertarian party here in Ontario but unfortunately no candidates in my riding.
My daughter wants to join me when I go and vote later today. She found the whole notion kind of silly but interesting, which pretty much sums up how I feel about it.

Hope the right leader wins and brings positive change. Let's go..

I don't particularly like any of them but I will vote for the one that is most likely to leave me alone.

Progressive Conservative Party
Canada is like an alternative history US sometimes. This is something I'd expect to find in a fiction novel.

"Progressive conservatism is a political ideology that attempts to combine conservative and progressive policies. While still supportive of a capitalist economy, it stresses the importance of government intervention in order to improve human and environmental conditions."
The Federal party is not called the Progressive Conservative party. It is merely the Conservative Party of Canada. There used to be a Progressive Conservative Federal party as well but it dissolved. It is interesting how at the provincial level the Progressive Conservative Party swallowed the Conservative Party and at the federal level the Conservative Party swallowed the Progressive Conservatives.
Ultimately they are the same thing. I don't think there is much difference from the federal and provincial conservative parties besides the naming convention. Federal party might be a bit more populist now with Pierre Poilievre as the leader.

Isn't that just the original meaning of Progressive? Is that what makes it conservative? They're conserving the original meaning of "Progressive".
reply
I don't think progressives are very pro capitalism.
The Progressive Conservatives are neither very progressive or conservative.

The original Progressive Movement in America was largely about advancing major industrial interests, like railroads and such, as well as seeking state remedies for everyday problems.

That was ridiculous.
My honest opinion is that your daughter is right. In my country the election is like "the most stupid candidate need to win", and unfortunatelly it has always happened so far... :(
