I think we are closer to this than not. It's very convenient to believe certain narratives.
Most people do not challenge their own traditional beliefs. The problem with IP is that it is logically inconsistent. There is no way you can rationalize the idea that copying is theft to a culture that believes in sharing. That's my take at least.
