Everyone knows that a destruction derby is when cars intentionally crash into each other until only one is left running, but do you know how it started?
The first Derby was held in 1780 by the 12th Earl of Derby, Edward Stanley. As you can imagine, it was just a horse race. The major difference between that and today's Kentucky Derby is how disputes were settled.
Often if one party accused the other of cheating, they would joust to decide the winner, sometimes until a horse died. The worst of such cases was in 1804 known as the black Derby.
When Winsor Philmont accused Sir Peter Winchester of cheating there was an uproar Sir Winchester was well renowned for his valor. Of course as you all know, Windsor was an extremely influential man.
The entire Derby erupted into a series of jousts until only one horse remaind standing, that of Stanley Pendleton. Stanley, as most of you probably know, jousted under Sir Winchesters banner, causing him to be crowned Derby champion.
To this day destruction Derbys still honor the memory of that fateful April day in 1804, thankfully without hurting any horses anymore.
Insightful.

By the way, I think it would be sick if Destruction Derby and Jousting were both added to the Olympics.

Thank goodness we have cars now.

Do you think we could potentially add engines to horses to increase their horse power? Then we could ride horses on the interstate.

You're thinking small. We can add jetpacks to horses and ride Pegasi.
