It was better with football because the point total also got you points. Here there are only two options so first place takes one and second place takes the other and then it doesn't matter what anyone else picked because they can't possibly surpass either of the top 2.
What if we make the picks in secret and I just reveal them 1 hour before the game? At least then there is a possibility some of the top players will make the same picks.
That might be too hard for some international contestants. I like the idea, though.
Maybe keep the points for winning at 8 and then have 8 points for spread or total.
That might work.
Or maybe the finals should just come down to the final two but that kind of defeats the purpose of escalating the points to 16.
I was talking to @supercyclone this morning and we were bemoaning the Texas Tech loss and I realized that due to the structure of the contest it will only come down to the top two players in the finals. That's unfortunate.
