pull down to refresh

Once a year the local council does a hard waste collection. It's where you can dump furniture, mattresses, bikes, wood, toys etc out the front of your house and the council will pick it up and take it to the tip.
During this time quite a number of people (including myself) like to go around looking through the boxes for "treasure". Some people even drive around with a trailer and I bet they make a living off selling the stuff they find. It might be a bit frowned upon by some to do this sort of thing. We have a few friends that would never bring themselves to do such a thing even though they have no money! I personally justify it by thinking that it counters consumerist culture, and it saves me from spending unnecessary sats.
Anyway, there was this wooden shelf a few hundred meters away. Too big to fit in the car and probably too heavy to lift onto the roof racks.
Thinking this would be something that would fit nicely in the work shed I grabbed the trolley and walked down to grab it. It was pretty heavy and took up the whole footpath while I was walking back. I felt this might look a bit funny for the people in cars watching me walk down the road with a large shelf. Kinda like a new level or poorness that I haven't felt before. Then to top it off I saw my neighbor and struggled a wave out as I pulled it up into the garage.
Aha! A final treasure was found within when I opened the drawers to find bodybuilding DVD's.
Not sure if it's the universe trying to tell me something here, but they will likely go in the bin.
Got to admit it's fun being poor!
Awesome find. The charms of life that one click buying off Amazon can never replicate

Wish we had an event like that in my town! It reminds me of my dumpster diving days. Those were some thrills...

That should be done in every city. While I was in the States, I got a DVD player with remote control from the street.
Also, I got a small electric chain saw with a spare battery.

There are a lot of people who do this. We also have this happen once a year. It can be a bit annoying when people come and look through the stuff and disorganize and throw stuff around. People can be a bit thoughtless.
