Help us grow.
how to apply
  1. hit apply and send a one month plan to grow SN
  2. if I like it, and believe you're the right person to execute on it, I'll hire you for a month to execute on it
  3. if that goes well, we'll do this a few more times
  4. if that goes well, I'll hire you full time
Full time employment includes competitive pay, equity, medical and dental. The one month trial will be aligned with what we expect to pay you full time.
This is an awesome job as/application method.
Just no bs, just pure content. god, if the rest of the labor market was like that

I didn't even notice this job posting on the first of the month. Awesome position.
Can I make a suggestion? I think before any SN growth plan is created or executed, a fact finding mission needs to take place. Typically I would be more of a let's try a bunch of stuff out and see what sticks kind of guy but I think the community has brainstormed some great ideas about how to market and grow SN that can and should be tested out.
I am stuck on a few road blocks though.
  • Why don't more bitcoiners, who I consider low hanging fruit, use SN?
  • Why do so few new users seem to stick around and become regulars or power users?
  • Why don't popular Bitcoin content creators use SN more often? (btc_sessions and joenakamoto link their youtube videos occasionally and carlbmenger posts his blogs but you would think more would want to share their work on SN)
  • Why do people who do AMAs rarely seem to come back and become a user of SN?
  • Why do some power users on other platforms only use SN sporadically (I see a few regulars from nostr and bitcoin twitter that will pop in to participate in a sports contest but don't stick around and engage more broadly)
  • SN has changed a lot since the early days. How can we get early users who may have left due to lack of content they liked or engagement on their posts/comments to have a second look?
I think before creating a growth plan there would be value in figuring out the answers to these questions and what the current perception of SN is amongst people have tried it but didn't become regular users.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

I agree with @grayruby. In fact, the first job of the Head of Growth is probably to try and answer some of these questions.
My guess is that there is just a limited market for text-based discussion forums.
Even Reddit, the closest comparison to SN, doesn't have that much real engagement, in my experience. It's mostly just memes and jokes, even on large subs. So for a text-based platform, I think SN probably holds up pretty well in terms of real posts and real discussions. It's probably comparable to some of the more active subs on Reddit.
Of course, Reddit as a whole gets much more engagement. I'm not sure what if anything SN can do about that, given that SN is a bitcoin-focused platform, and there's no real reason to use it if you're not interested in Bitcoin. Until bitcoin becomes mainstream, SN will not be mainstream as a discussion platform.
So SN needs to do a realistic market sizing exercise to see how large the "total addressable market" for the current product really is. If people aren't sticking around, I don't really think it's because the product isn't good, I think it's just because they're just not interested in reading and posting a lot of text.
That's in terms of engagement. How many eyeballs you get is a different matter. For that, I would look into SN's discoverability on Google and other platforms. Are there really great guides or posts here that you think should be at the top of Google search results? Figure out how to surface them.
The second thing I'd probably look into is embedded SN links on other platforms. That will help people share things that are good on SN more easily.

Gosh, I wish I were in a position where I could pursue something like this.
I'm happy to consult (or offer unsolicited advice) for free/V4V, though.

You guys already supply a literal avalanche of great ideas. I mostly need someone to riff and execute on them so I can vibe code more than part time.
reply
I know, but I mean that I would love to be able to attempt diving into it full time. Not at all a practical arrangement for my family though, not to mention you'll surely find someone more qualified at a lower price.

I do fantasize about hiring an economist someday. Should that day come, I imagine you won't have any trouble with the qualifications part.
reply
That is an exciting prospect. Let me know if you're even getting close to needing a part time consultant.
I could probably pull that off with a little advance notice.
