And are you now staying in the house you like best?
Some people like to move houses. I don’t. The stresses associated with finding a new place, packing possessions and sourcing for various personnel are enough for me to stay put in one place, never mind that flipping properties is still a viable way to accumulate wealth in Singapore.
I have only lived in 3 houses so far - my parents’ place, my apartment in Japan, and my matrimonial home. Thanks to renovation, I will take the plunge to live temporarily in a condominium unit from next week onwards. I must say that I look forward to the change even though I am going through hell now (read previous paragraph ☝️)

I changed my house 5 times since the end of 2021 but I don't like moving that much, sometimes you have to change house for various reasons, where it'll be that the house was a temporary choice or psychotic landlords that were either trespassing or over-controlling. Some days ago I moved into a new house with a 5 month contract to see if I wanna stay where I am or move again. So probably I'll continue moving lol
reply
Oh god I can't even count. 7 houses before I was 18, and then I think 13 more since? I honestly don't remember, I'm probably forgetting some.
reply
Wah that’s like 2-3 years per house. What made you move so much?
reply
Life happens, and its a big country lol.

Do you have a favourite state?

I'm extremely biased, because I've spent the majority of my life here, but Wisconsin.

I don't particularly like moving, but I moved pretty much every year all throughout undergrad and for the next several years after. We've moved twice more since then.
Currently, we definitely live in the nicest house either of us have ever lived in. We may move again in the near future, but only if our daughter is ok with relocating. If she would rather stay with her friends then we'll stay put.
reply
I get how your life revolves around your daughter. I literally just went to Toys R Us this morning because my son wanted to buy his monthly worth of toys. Laser pandas for him this month
reply
I'm with you. Really haaate it... Athe stress and the hassle, and things being in disorder.
I gotta move this year, and looks like I'll go traveling for a while too, so this impulse will be challenged

Will you get to teach yoga at your new place? Seems like a tough thing to give up!
reply
unclear... we shall see.
Most places around the world have yoga communities/studios around so it's mostly a matter of shopping around to find a good fit

I hate moving. When I was young, we moved a lot. Before 18 I had already lived in New York, New Jersey, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taipei.
Since settling into Los Angeles after grad school, we've only moved once and I hope not to move again until at the very least our kids are out of the house and fairly indepndent on their own
reply
Wow, you are a cultural chameleon. If I weren’t married, I would have aspired to lead your kind of lifestyle
Did you particularly enjoy living in any country?
reply
Hong Kong and Taipei were my favorite, I think.
It wasn't me who was the cultural chameleon, it was my parents who moved around so much. Personally, when I look at my friends who grew up all their lives in one place, I would have preferred that life. They have much deeper friendships and thicker social networks.

i've moved 5 times between the ages of 18-24, stayed in the same place for 8years and been semi nomadic since
I mostly miss the minimal overhead of living in the same place instead of needing to figure out life (where do i get good food, what restaurants i like, how to rent something without needing to sell a kidney etc) and not having the comforts of my home (I mostly miss my home office and my bed :D)
reply
Lol! Is it the nature of your job that causes you to be semi nomadic?

I seem to average a move every 3 years. I don’t love packing but I love exploring new places. I also like that moving is a good time to declutter and get rid of crap. :)
reply
You must have honed your packing processes to a T!

I have moved house three times, because the house I lived in was a rented house, at that time I did not have the money to build a house, because I did not have the money to buy or build, the fourth time I already had my own house, by building it from the results of my own hard work until finally I had a house in a simple condition.
reply
You must have felt so proud of yourself!

I lived in 7 different cities/towns before college. Then a dorm, 3 apartments, and two houses in college. After college it's been a house and two apartments. Currently homeless and Airbnb'ing around.
reply
I hope you chose Airbnb by choice instead of dire circumstances. Hugs to you if it’s the latter

Moving is a pain, but the more you do it the more you understand what you value in property and the surrounding area of the property. Makes it easier to hone in on what you appreciate if/when it comes time to move again. Great way to optimize quality of life.

It’s like moulting and embracing your new skin lol

From my count 37, but it could easily be more. A few houses I have lived in more than once. I grew up in an unstable environment, moving was necessary when I was a kid, something that I continued doing as an adult.
The house I now own, is the longest I have been anywhere at 2.5 years.
reply
yah, similar vibes. I had 12 or 13 different schools before graduating highschool.
this has persisted in adulthood
I've had a new "home" almost every 12 weeks for the last 5 years... getting close to a more fixed situation. Fortunately, I am enjoying the process
reply
Just counted 2 more, so 39 I can confirm. I wouldn't be surprised if it was more than 40.
Edit: Thought of another one, definitely 40+

I don't like moving either. I've lived in a total of 4 houses so far, with my parents, in boarding school (for 4 years during my high school years), in a third during my university years, and then in a fourth after marriage. Hopefully, in the near future we will have the necessary money to move to a new, bigger house.

i moved apartments a fair bit when i lived in Russia, and it was never a big deal because i was single and didn't have much stuff. quite a freeing feeling actually, I also moved countries twice , again not a big deal because I didn't have much stuff.
but once I got a house and we moved as a family, it was just endless stress on top of 6 months or more of going to furniture shops with a baby, kitchen designing etc I moved the stuff gradually over a few weeks.
Generally speaking, i never, ever want to move again if it involves uprooting all the family etc
if i were a single guy though, it wouldn't be a big deal, i think that statement applies to most things tho!

It's not nice to be changing home frequently. For now I have 5 years in this house, my wife already speaks to me about wanting to change to a bigger place, and I can only think that the only thing I need to enlarge are my satan holdings. And I can quietly store it in the place where I am currently.

I have moved house about 15 times...When I was a kid and my dad lost his job, my parents had the brilliant idea to sell our house, after that, we were renting in different places, so we were moving about every two years...
When I finished my studies, I moved abroad.
Moving, is a good way to decluttering and also helps you to avoid buying stuff you don't need.
