I suspect we'll see some bigger swings, if we get close to that point.
As is, we have some proof of concept. Just the existence of territories turning an accounting profit, is evidence that there will be demand for running territories. That'll be all the more true, once k00b finishes weening us off his reward pool subsidy.
That will be the true test of who stays and who goes. I was on SN well before the subsidy started. Lot less sat milkers were around. Plus accounting profit of a few sats isn’t really moving the needle for people to buy and operate one on mass

I know the accounting profits are small, but it's important that they even can be positive. When we were continuing on month after month, with no profitable territories, that was casting doubt on the entire project.
Have you noticed much difference in who has remained since the subsidy was cut in half?
reply
Not really. But the CC implementation seemed to slow down engagement.
But are the profits sustainable? Over the long term? Like I often think if BTC is at $10M and one sat is like one dollar (in today’s purchasing power) will the territories still be viable?
One could argue yes the it could drive SN to have crazy growth because it would be an easy way to earn says but I often think will zapers start to be more stingy with their stack
reply
We both remember the days when posts were regularly being zapped in the thousands of sats, so it’s hard not to wonder about that.
I feel like most stackers are fairly insensitive to fiat exchange rates, though.

But we are the early adopters. Once the masses come with the bots, spam and scams SN can look like nostr where the top bitcoin influencers like Odell and Lyn get all the zaps and the rest of the people get almost nothing.
If you think about it that same thing is forming here on SN.
reply
I don't think so. The incentives are different here and outcomes follow incentives.
