On this day in 1912, the British luxury passenger liner Titanic sank en route to New York City from Southampton, Hampshire, England, after striking an iceberg during its maiden voyage; some 1,500 people died.
Also, today marks the birth of the renowned Italian artist, engineer and scientist, Leonardo da Vinci, who painted the non-fading portrait of pretty Monalisa below
He unavoidably passed away on the 2nd of May, 1519 at the age of 67.
