I LOVE stumbling across all of these various recession indicators lol. Just when I think there isnt a more outrageous one BAM.
Consumers on edge, for example, buy more lipstick as a still-affordable luxury, or they start to scoop up smaller bottles of liquor. Another peculiar sign they're feeling pinched by the economy: They buy more frozen pizza, specifically, the fancy kind.

Lol makes sense, you looking for "affordable luxuries" because you're priced out of the bigger ticket items, most people don't save, they just adjust their consumption.
I also read an article recently about recession blondes, as money gets tighter women colour their hair with darker tones since its cheaper and easier to maintain
I decided to test this thesis do a lot of work with hair saloon booking engines in Australia and I can see it in the data too, its wild!

Hold on a sec...you have access to a lot of booking data from salon booking engines in Australia, and you can actually see that currently women are looking to color their hair with darker tones?

So it's 8 different salons in particular in different cities across AU and one in NZ, not a big sample and the data goes back 5 years, lol will see if I can pull some data for you and make a graph when I get a mo

I wonder if video games are a recession indicator, as people trade more expensive hobbies for this cheaper one that can occupy just as much time, if not more.

My whole thing is it isnt like you are getting Walmart brand frozen pizza its the nice ones (I can only think of California Pizza Kitchen being one maybe) lol!
Cutting expenses seems to have its limit I'd say since the poor store brand frozen pizza isnt good enough!

I guess the cheap frozen pizzas are for the consistently poor, but the fancy ones are for people accustomed to better.
