I mean... does this surprise anyone? If it does you don't understand Trump people.

I don’t really understand Trump people.

Its not that complicated. You are likely over-thinking it.
The central thing with most of them is that they correctly understand that most politicians do not care nor represent their views or values. These are people that are patriotic and value traditional American values. Trump, to them fights for them. He demonstrates that he cares about what they care about to them. He seems to not care what the typical politician cares about. He can be called names and hated as he holds his ground. He's their champion. He's their strong man. I started to get this back in 2016 when I would talk to his fans. They overlook MANY flaws because of all this.
Most people are not ideological. They want what they want and don't care if it makes sense. They want medicad and all the government for them but not for people not like them. They aren't anti-government. They are anti-government they don't like. They are massively inconsistent. So is the other side.
Realizing this stuff helped me communicate and get along with Trump people. I get it. I don't agree with them but I get it. Its not hard to get. You have to be able to empathize a bit and it helps if you have relationships with people like this. They are not terrible people. Most are not racists or anything like what they are portrayed as. They aren't perfect by any means but they are just fed up with the liberal world order and what it has done in their minds. They have some points for sure. I just disagree with the response.

IMO Trump voters are pretty easy to understand, and when so-called "elites" say they don't understand them, it's not really because they don't understand--it's because they don't like them and don't want to understand.
It'd be like asking a Palestinian to try to understand Israel, or an Israeli to try to understand a Palestinian. Easy to understand, but do you want to?
reply
Exactly. Its pretty clear that the Washington elites not only don't like the average Joe, they despise them. They view them as simpletons that don't understand how grateful they should be to have such great leaders.

What exactly is there to understand??? The US government is broke - it's running a ~ 2 trillion a year deficit, around 6.5% of GDP yearly in a strong economy.
What happens in 10 years? 20 years?
How do government programs get paid for?????? This is totally bipartisan.
reply
The average man doesn't understand they they are not enlightened enough to understand all this stuff.
The government is a small club and you and I aren't in it.
They want medicad and all the government for them but not for people not like them.
So, in other words, Trump people are self-interested hypocrites. Good.
reply
Let's be honest. You and I are also self-interested. I don't know anyone that isn't. I'm sure you have been guilty of hypocrisy before. I know I have. We are very good as humans at moralizing our choices and opinions.
reply
Yes, and so are the other side. Neither side broadly demonstrate while in power the values of rejecting the abuse of power. People of all stripes want to enforce their world view on others that do not hold the same one. They dress it up in slogans but my years of watching and listening to people in the US has taught me this.
