I'm pretty sure the feds took down my bitcoin meetup poster.1
Not once, but twice, it happened.
I'd been promoting a Bitcoin meetup I hosted in my locale (notes and resources published here: #958945), so I put up a poster on a cafe bulletin board and twice I returned to find it had been taken down. I was shocked since I'd done my diligence by getting permission from the shopkeeper. I ended up asking them what they thought could have happened, and they gave the excuse that they don't have a line of sight to the bulletin board.
Well, the cafe is in the city center, close to a federal employee office, so the most plausible case scenario is that some numbskull, property-rights-disrespecting government lackey came in on their lunch and didn't like what they saw. The third time, I saved them the trouble of un-tacking and left several posters on the table next the bulletin. Nice try feds.
This is the poster - can you believe it got taken down?
At any rate, how did the meetup go? you ask. It was swell indeed.
We had a rando boomer lady who thought she was attending a French lesson mosey in, and I got her to stay and learn about bitcoin instead (using a simple persuasion tactic involving coffee and baked goods). She was engaged and asked some good questions. Total, the group consisted of myself and another bitcoiner, and three no-coiners. All of them asked when the next one would be.
The newbies were all interested in knowing what the difference is between crapto and Bitcoin, which confirmed
my suspicions that the largest mental hurdle for this milieu is the psyop that bitcoin is somehow a scammy ponzi controlled by some elite tech-bros.
I'm hoping we can double our turnout for next time, which will just require each person to bring one friend. I don't expect this to be a problem. The attendees are all currently active in a telegram group where we continue to share resources and discuss.
Going Forward
Next meetup will be the end of May, so stay posted for updates in the ~events territory. I'll most likely not waste any more posters in the cafe. Since then, I've distributed more around the city.
P.s.
@plebpoet,
I'll have you know. I shamelessly flaunted my inaugural SN Zine to the attendees. Still shmoozing them to join here. Should be soon.
