I believe the US has the second largest rare earth supply in the world after China but have been offshoring the environmental degradation to China for political reasons.
if that's the deal, the US is stacking their stuff for when you can't cop it anywhere else.
There is a rare earths coming online in Australia as well that we are supposed to be importing from soon. The company was building refining capabilities after previously sending it to China for processing!
