The proposal doesn't adequately address the increased burden on node operators. Node operators bear the costs of storing, processing, and transmitting all blockchain data in perpetuity, yet receive no compensation for storing arbitrary data. This socializes costs while privatizing benefits to data storers. There are numerous off-chain solutions for arbitrary data storage that don't burden the Bitcoin network, including sidechains, layer 2 solutions, and purpose-built data storage blockchains. The proposal doesn't sufficiently explore why these alternatives are inadequate.
