Firstly, let me just say that press conference was an utter shitshow.

Secondly, I actually think Carney did a reasonably good job in the limited time he spoke at placating Trump but not backing down from the Canadian position on the 51st state thing and ultimately not saying much at all on trade that would piss Trump off or cut off trade talks. It was perfectly fine.

But my biggest takeaway from all of this is the media spent the month leading up to the election painting Carney as the guy who would "stand up to Trump" and protect Canadian interests. Yet Carney used the first few minutes of his speech to praise Trump and his leadership and continued to do so throughout. Which was probably the correct strategy but likely not what the "elbows up" Liberal voters were hoping for. Yet the media today are acting like Carney just saved the world.

Canadians have yet to figure out their media is just the public relations wing of the Liberal party and until they do we will likely continue to see Liberals win election and the country decline.
