No mention of how to use LN or other secondary chains requires in a practical sense almost always breaking tax recording and compliance regulations in the case of most 'liberal western democracies' and in the case of miost autocracies like Turkey, Russia, China and Thailand outright breaking the law for any use of Bitcoin as a MoE.
The banks and governments have effectively, practically, and very slyly already outlawed MoE use of Bitcoin as a P2P payments protocol.
And nobody wants to talk about it.
Just keep on spouting the NGU DCA HODL speculative commodity narratives hopium and pretend its not happening.
It has happened already.
Even if you can in theory still legally use BTC/LN etc as a MoE almost nobody is going to record, assess, report and pay the tax on all their individual zaps and coffee purchases.
Most people are not going to use LN payments knowing that such use is unlawful and exposes them to potential prosecution and so the problems of scaling mentioned are entirely academic as they all presume a mass scale adoption that cannot logically develop while current tax laws are in place.
"The colonies would gladly have borne the little tax on tea and other matters, had it not been that England took away from the colonies their money, which created unemployment and dissatisfaction. The inability of the colonies to get power to issue their own money permanently out of the hands of George III the international bankers was the prime reason for the revolutionary war." - Benjamin Franklin's autobiography
What I don't understand is, why are there not more Bitcoiners willing to fight their governments, demanding the ability to use Bitcoin as a MoE without repercussions? Where are the patriots among us?
I never expected governments to easily give up the benefits fiat money provides them. But I did expect a stronger, more militant stance by the Bitcoin community on the issue. As you say, they're more interested in NGU DCA HODL speculation, and all the talk about Bitcoin being a tool for freedom seems just a larp.
