In a world that's increasingly digital, it's easy to forget how transformative physical travel can be. Whether you're hopping across borders or just exploring a neighboring town, travel offers a kind of education no book or app can match.
Here are a few underrated benefits I've noticed:
Perspective Shift: Seeing how other people live, think, and solve problems challenges your assumptions. It makes your worldview less rigid and more layered.
Discomfort Builds Growth: Navigating unfamiliar places forces you to adapt. You become more confident, resourceful, and open-minded.
Creative Fuel: New environments stimulate your senses and ideas. Some of my best thoughts have come while walking unfamiliar streets or waiting in a train station.
Human Connection: You meet people you’d never encounter in your daily life each with stories, struggles, and insights that remind you how big and small the world really is.
Of course, not everyone has the privilege to travel far, but even local exploration visiting a new neighborhood, attending a cultural event can unlock similar benefits.
So, I’m curious: What’s a lesson or insight you’ve gained from travel that stuck with you? And do you think it’s still as valuable in an increasingly remote first world?
One of the things I love the most about traveling is learning how to use a transit system.
While not many places in the US have a good public transit system, I have always enjoyed getting around without relying solely on a car.

Totally get that. Cracking the local transit code makes you feel more connected to the place like you actually live there.

Yeah. It takes a certain effort but once you figure it out, it makes getting around so much easier and fulfilling.
