For starters, core devs could not have tried to take away configuration options, and could not have attacked people who were unhappy about that. I'd like to see a well maintained alternative to "core".
Why?
Is it really better if people have a 'knob' to adjust with regard to how much arbitrary data is in their mempools?
What difference does it make if those transactions make their way into blocks anyway?
