I complained about tech again the other day (#979998)... and my punishment was to forget my sacred task to report the status of the Predyx bet semi-weekly (bi-weekly??) on the 15th and the last day of each month.
...so here I am, at 1 am, sacrificing my sleep (#980305) and admiring the endless light of our Arctic summers (#979458), putting in the hard effort of reporting SN's unceasing demise. Can't say I ain't putting in the effort!
If you're new to this series, here's the deal: @mega_dreamer kindly put up not one but two bets for us to throw our hard-earned sats at:
Since we are irremediable degenerate gamblers, we obviously do throw sats that way. @Undisciplined clearly loves that there are two correlated bets, because he can do some wacky arbitrage-adjusting betting between them (#978136, #977558), which makes him happy.
The rest of us schmucks just DCA into the "No" contract (with the occasional panic sell, mind you...) since, as you'll find out soon enough, it is absolutely, unmistakenly, definitely impossible for SN to have that much activity... and we're only in May.
How can I be so sure?
Well. I can count. And I can draw lines. And we did just recently go through @ek's nuclear option of bribing Stackers to post nonsense (thousands and thousands of comments of nonsense, #967744) and, as you can tell from the chart... you can't actually tell it from the chart — absolutely nada came of it.
(Now, I'm sure Mr. ek, in between actually writing code and fixing bugs and pushing updates and doing his job etc (#980902), will come up with some other filthy way for me to lose this bet and my tens of thousands of sats, oh well... what we live for!)
Aaaanyway, in the last 15-day period we advanced... checks notes... 13,545 items for 903 a day — the worst record since measurements BEGAN! Unbelievable. This thing only moves one way...
It's been 135 days of the year (37%) so far but we're only 26% of the way to the 1.4 million target. For the year we're at a daily rate of 1,108 but that's constantly falling, week in and week out. To hit 1.4 million items now, we need 1,820 items a day. (For reference, ek's "Most comments win" stunt netting him about 9,000 comments in about 9 days... so at this rate we need one of those every week for the rest of the year; somehow I don't believe the Stackers are up for it... nor that ek's pocketbook is big enough!)
OK, fine... I lied a little: if you squint you can kind of see the impact of ek's hundreds of thousands of sats thrown at this thing:
Nothing more to say. Place your bets, enjoy the ride.
See you next time.
