I'm planning on spending the day tomorrow blissfully offline. Or maybe not blissfully, but offline in any case.
Join me! It's not hard. Interesting accounts of your digital detox, or any tips/pointers would be very much appreciated.
Here's a quick list of what you could consider doing:
- Not use your phone/laptop AT ALL. That's the easiest, in terms of drawing a bright line for your digital detox. But it's hard for many people to not have a phone at all - most people don't have a land line anymore.
- This is what I do - switch to a minimalist launcher on my phone (Slim Launcher) and only allow calls, messages, calculator, and a few apps like that. Nothing else. Then on the laptop, I just turn it offline - I can still use whatever docs and tools are on the laptop, but there's no internet connection. I probably make MORE phone calls when I'm doing a digital detox day.
- If you're going to do this, I suggest you prep a few ideas of things to do. I have a few projects to work on, a book to read, will do a short hike or bike ride, and a bunch of people I could connect with, so I'll be good.
