Been using and testing Alby Hub and I wasn't aware of a security feature it has which makes sense now. I updated it and rebooted my node today and suddenly lost access to my NWC wallets. Payments were failing on SN connections. My node was up. Channels were working. I have uptime monitoring on my ISP connection so I knew that wasn't an issue.

So, I logged into my Alby Hub interface and suddenly the NWC wallets all started working. After looking through the settings I see that it is possible to avoid this issue if you go to settings/auto-unlock and set it up. But this is a security tradeoff I don't wanna make.

If you're curious go to your settings and read about it.

Just thought I'd share in case others stackers were not aware of this.

Same when you backup Start9

Thanks. This drives me nuts.

What drives you nuts? Can we help?

reply

IIt drives me nuts when my node is up and my SN wallet NWC connection breaks because Alby logged off. It's not a criticism of Alby. It's just good to know the auto unlock is available.

But does the auto-unlock work for you?

reply

I haven't tried it yet.

reply

For me I'd rather deal with it than have another attack point on my node.

reply

You're probably right

Good to know.

iirc when running the update shell script in terminal it does tell you to "please unlock alby now", but I wasn't aware it was that important to do it ASAP

reply

I missed it if it was displayed. I bet it was.

Thanks for sharing

Helpful — went to double check this just now!

After updating Alby Hub, I lost access to my NWC wallets until I logged in. There's an auto-unlock setting, but it's a security tradeoff. Just a heads-up!
