i have been fascinated about this aspect of the Old World buildings ever since i visited a capitol building in a major town; i was told that toilets were installed there only by 1860's (according to AI-generated internet/textbook narrative); for many years, i was baffled by the stories of royalty who were perfuming themselves instead of taking a bath, pooping into the bedside commode, or pooping down from a tall tower, while living in awe-inspiring palaces; this was a long-awaited episode from My Lunch Break!
turns out, all of those stories may have been a feeble cover-up for the fact that the advanced civilization of the Old World had an unimaginably different way of life; what were they feeding on - air, water, electromagnetism, and sunlight?! how much urine and poop did they make? did they pulverize it into dust with high-frequency musical instruments and light prisms? perhaps pooping & urinating were sacred rituals comparable to childbirth; how much value did such a handful of poop cost from a pristine being?
someone probably knows what exactly went on, but even if we had this knowledge, the amount of discipline required to implement this way of life would probably be too extreme for most people today;
