The short answer is: it doesn't depend exclusively on the internet — but it does require communication between nodes.
The internet is currently the main medium connecting nodes, miners, and users. But it’s not the only path.

🚀 Existing Alternatives

Satellite Network:
Blockstream runs a satellite network that broadcasts the Bitcoin blockchain worldwide. You can sync your node, receive blocks, and verify transactions without an internet connection.
Shortwave Radio (HF):
Experimental projects already allow Bitcoin data, blocks, and transactions to be transmitted via radio frequencies. It’s not fast or scalable, but it works to keep the network alive.
Mesh Networks:
These are local networks that connect devices directly, creating a decentralized, censorship-resistant alternative to the internet.
Sneakernet (Physical Transfer):
In extreme scenarios, blocks and transactions can be transferred physically using disks, USB drives, or any other storage medium.

🔥 So... Would It Survive?

Yes. Bitcoin is far more resilient than most people think.
As long as a single node holds the blockchain and others can eventually reconnect, the system continues, syncs, and updates.

Transactions might be delayed. Confirmations could be slower or intermittent. But the protocol does not die.
