I'm hesitant to call this a guide as I just got it set up. I just wanted to put some info out there for anyone who wants to solo mine using Oceans Datum. Most of the information provided on mining with Datum is for miners wishing to join the pool. I found it a little confusing, but got some great help from both the Start9 community and Ocean's team.
I'm running Start9 and have both Knots and Datum installed. To keep this simple I won't go into setting up Datum here. For solo mining just make sure that you leave the Pool Host blank, and that you select Collaborative reward sharing to NEVER. You can set this at Datum Gateway > Config > Datum.
I'm mining with a Nerdaxe which has been forked from Bitaxe, but uses the same (or similar) operating system. So anyone using a Bitaxe might run into the same problems.
I was having issues finding which info to put into the AxeOS. Mainly the following:
- Hostname
- Stratum URL
- Stratum Port
After some digging around, it turned out to be quite simple:
Stratum URL is your Start9's IP address
Stratum Port is 23334
It turns out that Hostname is not needed for solo mining. AxeOS requires that you input something, so I put datum-beta1.mine.ocean.xyz.
To find your Start9 IP address go to System > Insights > About
Am I mining yet?
Just to make sure it's all working, your Neraxe/Bitaxe should be displaying a variable hash rate on the device. Or you should see some hash on the AxeOS dashboard. Datum UI should also display a connection.
Also check the logs in Datum for something like this:
[ main] INFO: Server stats: 1 client / 0.82 Th/s
Now just sit back and wait for it to find a block!
