pull down to refresh

I was sitting in a local diner this morning having breakfast. There was a family at the table next to me getting ready to pay their bill and leave. The dad was paying with a credit card, but they planned to leave a tip in cash. They didn't have enough paper bills, so the dad pulled some loose change out of his pocket. He pulled out a bunch of recently minted US quarters. The grandmother exclaimed "you can't leave this fake money for the waitress."

The son and the grandson began examining the quarters. The grandmother picked one up and said "look, light as a feather. It's fake." The father and son laughed, and the little boy said " Yaya, that's real money. "

I was tempted to tell the kid to listen to his grandmother, but I thought better of it.

That's why you always have to listen to your grandmother.

Haha Grandma knows. That shit ain't real. Quick, hightail it out of there before the diner catches on.

It’s funny that the lightness of the notes didn’t give her pause.

The gov couldn't even keep the copper standard in pennies, so they switched to zinc. They won't be able to keep the zinc standard either.....and eventually paper/ink itself will be a problem.

Reminds me of the “toy money coins” they sell in toy stores for children, light as feather

Are newer coins lighter weight? I just realized I don't use coins anymore.

Wise choice @siggy47, Very soon you will see the "environment friendly" version of it too lol...
I heard that they cost more to produce than they are worth, why we still doing this is beyond me.
The only "coin" we should be using is Bitcoin :-)

You should have filmed it. That would make a nice meme.

reply

It would have. They would have also wondered why the hell I was filming them. I may have gotten my ass kicked.

Experience is everything.

People always tell you to heed the wisdom of the older generation, the voice of experience! These young kids these days are completely adrift. Ahah

The coins are the real symbol of Fiat fakery. I can confirm that 1 rupee coin 20 years ago had more weight and size than current 10 rupee coin.

How many people understand what fiat money is?
95% of it is debt...all bank deposits are actually IOUs for physical cash - but just try getting cashed out from your bank!
Good luck with that!
Nearly all fiat 'money' (that which is in the form of bank deposits) is created when private banks issue debt...out of thin air.

The coins and notes are the only fiat money that is technically free of debt.

My guess is less than 1% of the general populations understand this and perhaps 30-40%+ of Bitcoiners.
Bitcoin has its problems but it has achieved a substantial increase in the understanding of the fiat monetary system by offering an alternative that ios not based upon a state imposed monopoly that enables massive usury.
