You can buy Bitcoin directly and instantly from any kiwi bank account and it will be sent straight to any lightning address.
Multisig has become much easier to use. If you already have three signing devices, just open Sparrow Wallet on your desktop and create a new wallet using those three signatures (set it as 2-of-3).
Once it’s created, make sure to back up or export the wallet configuration file - you’ll need this if you ever need to reconstruct the multisig wallet later.
When you want to spend, simply create the transaction in Sparrow, then export the unsigned transaction file and take it to your signing devices to collect their signatures. Once you’ve gathered the required number of signatures (for example, 2 of 3), bring the signed transaction file back into Sparrow and broadcast it to the network.
I’m not sure splitting a recovery seed is much of an upgrade from single-sig - at least not in the way multisig is. It’s definitely better than keeping your private key sitting in one place, like your sock drawer, but if your Bitcoin is still secured by a single signature, then someone with a gun can still coerce you to unlock your hardware wallet.
The real advantage of a 2-of-3 multisig setup is that there’s never enough information to spend the Bitcoin in any one location. No single compromise gives an attacker control - and that’s a true security upgrade.
Yes you can use Coinos to swap between on-chain, Lightning, and Liquid BTC. They show as one unified balance in your account, and you can withdraw to any of the three networks.
Just note there’s a fee if you withdraw to a different network than you received on. From their FAQ:
“Withdrawals to external wallets are free if you use the same network you received on, otherwise there’s a 0.4% fee for Bitcoin or 0.1% for Lightning or Liquid.”
Coinos is one of the longest-running custodial wallets in Bitcoin and is fully open source. That said, they still recommend you don’t use it as a savings account. They even have an auto-withdrawal feature so you can regularly sweep funds out to your own wallet.
If you like the project and want to support its continued development, you can contribute to their Geyser fund.
Exciting times for Bitcoin in New Zealand! The local Bitcoin community is thriving, with meetups growing consistently and discussions becoming increasingly advanced. Our developers have built an incredible bridge between NZ bank accounts and Bitcoin through LightningPay, leveraging New Zealand’s open banking initiative. Since all NZD bank accounts are accessible via API, LightningPay can seamlessly pull NZD from your bank and push sats into your Lightning wallet instantly—a game-changer for adoption.
The energy at our meetups has been fantastic, and I put together a recap of the latest one here:
Next time, I’ll be sure to share it on Stacker News too!
Probably a couple million sats for a conference/event ticket, but to be honest every purchase has Bitcoin as its opportunity cost so technically the deposit I paid for my home in 2020 could have stacked sats.
I dunno, I think this is a US specific thing. Here in New Zealand an iPhone costs a massive premium to the equivalent spec Android and there's a lot more variety when it comes to Android. Most young people I see are using an Android. One reason could also be because we don't ban Chinese competitors from selling their phones here (Huawei).
You could give them a lightsats gift and it includes basic onboarding and let's them withdraw it to any lightning wallet. You can either share a link with them or if the gift is physical then it might be easier to use the feature that lets you turn it into 3 words that they enter at the website (and then write those words on a card).
I'm in El Salvador at the moment so I've been buying something every day with sats (usually food or drinks). Here's a video of me buying coffee from a great cafe called Good Beans.
I've used liquid for the security tokens from stokr (e.g. Blockstream Mining Note) and other tokens like when Blockstream presold the Jade as a token or that film premiere sold tickets as a token. I've also supported artists at raretoshi (e.g. Scam Artist). I accidentally misclicked the poll and voted no.
