Some users will, some won't. And it'll happen. When people need money they don't have, they tend to bring it from the future via credit. What are their incentives to not do it?

Check strfry, I believe it has a mechanism to sync relays.
If optimized, a relay should be able to do Twitter levels of traffic by itself.
The fact is that hardware improves exponentially faster than the size of humanity, so we are probably at the point where single-node Twitter is feasible. That's a first, and what may change things.
I agree that's the key point. Hyperbitcoinization means the state and world order as it exists today will have to fundamentally change. Not something I expect (or want) to see while I'm alive.
Bitcoin splitting between KYCBTC and noKYCBTC is the current trend and likely the status for many years. Some degree of movement between the 2 pools will likely be possible, esp. at the "pocket money" level.
