When the only way people get bitcoin is buying it with fiat, spending bitcoin feels foolish. Once they have a chance to earn a few sats, spending feels like a more reasonable option. A couple days on SN, earning sats can quickly changes feelings about spending (at least a little). Yet another reason I love SN.
Thought this was going to be a list of sandwiches eaten at historically notable moments. It was not. Still enjoyed it.
I get a large amount of enjoyment out of setting my default zap at some uncommon amount, kinda like a calling card.

On privacy: this hurts privacy for peg-ins and peg-outs for example. Even if there was full KYC, ecash is still a lot more private than a normal custodian. The provider doesn't have a view into your wallet, can't take your ecash, and can't stop you from transacting with others.
So it sounds like you are correct.
Yes, in general I feel like "kyc is the illicit activity" and giving any ground on this front seems bad.
On the other hand, I didn't build cashu. The people who did have every right to build it however they like. And they probably have more insight into what their customers want than I do.
It struck me particularly strong me in light of the Tornado Cash ruling where it said the developers didn't build AML/KYC into the contract when they could have and so were culpable.
I think the headline strongly overstates the case. The officials quoted in the piece sound like they are giving canned "there, there" responses:

I still maintain that it would be nice to get a notification when your post is downzapped. Doesn't have to say who did it, but how else do you get the signal that your content was so off-putting yo someone that they took the trouble yo spend money to say so?
I agree, but many people buy/sell on kyc exchanges. Even using Core won't help with that. (Although it does have coin control and labeling)
I concur. Use Phoenix a lot. It's very simple LN with a focus on ease of use.

Because you have only the one channel with acinq's node, if you receive more than your inbound, it will automatically splice for you (even if on chain fees are high). If you aren't paying attention a small LN receive can cause an on chain txn. They have a setting for limiting how much you are willing to pay in fees, but it can be a footgun if you aren't careful.
Also, because they allow you to send out to on chain from your LN channel (via splicing) you might wreck your inbound if you don't understand LN liquidity.
I've seen people pay for inbound liquidity, receive maybe half, and then send out to on chain not understanding that the splice will resize their channel and decrease their inbound. They could explain it better in the app.
Overall though, its a good wallet that rarely has issues with failed payments. Highly recommend.
Not everyone will like it but it doesn't matter because it can't be stopped.

I read this one because I've read a few other Pynchon books that I liked. Gravity's Rainbow is similarly muddy but he got me with the v2 rocket thing (rockets falling randomly over London but also always some place the main character was a few days ago, but also statisticians say it's just a coincidence) caught my imagination.
Which leads to your larger point: if the world started with something like Finnegan's Wake I doubt we ever would have heard of Joyce. But Ulysses was something new and maybe even a good read. So these artists build trust by producing things we do think are good and then they step out into unknown territory and try something unexpected.
There are no guarantees that it works out. And they definitely get to draft off their previous success. But sometimes it works out and we end up adapting our sensibilities to this new thing and it turns out to be quite enjoyable.
(I don't think it worked out for Pynchon here--it will be a while before I read another one of his books)
