I'd like to introduce a new idea to the Bitcoin_Beginners territory: (Friendly) Bitcoin-centered writing competitions.

Motivation

I'd like to see more content tailored to people who'd like to learn something about Bitcoin, whether beginner or advanced, and thought about the following:
We have more than enough capable writers on SN, most- if not all of us have a shared interest for Bitcoin, and most- if not all of us have topics to learn (more) about.
In regards to the learning-part: I can speak from experience that writing about the topic forces you to actually learn about it, for how else would you be able to forge a coherent and correct summary, explainer, write-up et cetera?!
In my mind, people would actually (try) to learn something, the territory and platform as a whole would benefit from more Bitcoin-specific posts, and people would have a(nother) weekly chance of receiving some extra Sats---A win-win-win.

Idea (Experimental)

I'd like to organize a weekly writing competition featuring a collectively chosen topic, facilitated by a poll that'll contain topics to pick from, as well as the option to comment a topic of your personal liking; these will be featured in the next poll (can already be commented on this post)
Poll's will be posted on Monday's, while the upcoming theme (poll-winner) will be posted on Friday's, for example:
  • 13.05, Monday: Poll posted.
  • 17.05, Friday: Theme posted. The winner of that week's theme will also be featured in the theme-post.

Winners and Reward(s) (Experimental)

I'd like to hear you guys opinion about the following:
  • How many possible winners should there be? One? Three? Five? Something else?
  • What would be a fitting reward?
  • What should be the winning-conditions?
I'd like the reward to be a "thank you", instead of something people simply participate in to try and farm Sats; something that motivates people to participate and deliver a quality piece.
I was thinking in the realm of a fixed amount of Sats (but how much?), plus the Sats earned from both the poll and theme / winner post, or in other words:
  • Two non-fixed amounts plus a fixed amount of Sats.
  • I am excluded from the competition.
Let me know if there's a shared interest in the above, as well as to how it should be given form.
This is a very good idea. I think maybe one winner to start, then get a handle on how popular the idea is. As far as award amount, right now I give 2500 for top post of the week. I can cut that down so that the contest has more popularity. Example- I cut my total award from 5k to 2.5k among the five winners. Then, if it's popular, we can phase mine out and you can increase the number of winners. I can chip in for awards. Let me know your thoughts.

Hm, the case with only one winner is, that people who think that they'll have a less-than-perfect chance of winning the reward, might choose to chime out, instead of in.
A 2nd and 3rd place + reward might have a positive effect in regards to participation, as people might take a chance and enter in the pursuit for the 2nd- or 3rd place + reward.
On the other hand: one big, fat 🏆 can be enticing in- and of itself... 🌝
I'll gladly accept your offer on chiming-in on the (fixed) amount, we're off for a solid start in that regard!

It's your baby. Let's see how it goes.

This a great idea! I would love to participate. Just wondering 🤔 do we have competition here.
reply
Thanks, I'm with ya on the latter.

Cool idea Fabs!

Let's see.

Why don't you just test this in books and articles before creating a new territory?
reply
We're already in the intended territory, as stated in the post above: I'd like to introduce a new idea to the Bitcoin_Beginners territory
reply
Oh my bad. I thought you wanted to start a new territory.
Looking forward to the competitions.

As of now, it doesn't look like there'll be any. 🌝🤣

Ohh whoa! This sound so exciting! 100% true on this statement
"In regards to the learning-part: I can speak from experience that writing about the topic forces you to actually learn about it, for how else would you be able to forge a coherent and correct summary, explainer, write-up et cetera?!"
I reckon this would be a weekly contest? That seems a little too frequent for someone like me. But I bet this community will jump on it.
reply
Depends: If you know the in's and out's of the respective topic, or have something ready-to-go, it can be plenty.
Nonetheless, you could be right, and I'll adjust the duration if need be, we'll have to try things out.

This is a wise move on your part. I commend you for doing something like this. I think in the upcoming months, there's will be a flood of newer people jumping on board on SN. this was after I published my article on Nostr. If the topics fall in line, I would be happy to try to contribute to this. I will be featured in Nos.social on the 15th and I'm trying to get into another community.
I was thinking I need help if I can find a translator for Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese. I see these guys post up in my feeds on Nostr. You can Bit*h all you want, but these guys are like us, they want out of the fiat system. To do that, we need to make sure guides are translated. WELL.
^^Not trying to gloat

ChatGPT?
reply
Even if I use ChatGPT, I want a human to look at it and possibly do voice. sats4ai couldn't do the voice for my article for some reason, so I ended up recording it myself. Adding another 1 or so hour on top of writing my article, but I felt it needed it. To be friendly as much as possible. Because on Nostr, you can read and listen as you scroll and follow along. Looking at text, can be extremely unaccommodating for several people, TikTok comes to mind. And if it gets banned, well I wrecken people will be forced to read text much like this, so why not make it sound human. I think people or human will be more of a commodity, especially if Ai eats up the chunks.

I would love to participate in this!
reply
I say run it and see. And then iterate based on participation and feedback.
Fail up!
Also, entry fee?
reply
There's no entry fee, but people are somewhat responsible for the price pot, since I plan on including two "floating" rewards + one fixed amount; the more zaps the former receives, the bigger the pot grows beyond the fixed amount.
reply
This is not like science fiction or whatnot, right? Just soley based on bitcoin topics?
reply
Correct, fine Sir...
reply
why dont you do something on short stories? That would be cool.
reply
Because I'd like to see what other people's level of [technical] knowledge is, amongst other topics, which I'd be able to learn from in return for a prize pot.
Short stories and the likes can be done on Books_and-Articles; I want to cultivate content that also has a learning-factor.
