Dear students,
How are you? I’m fine.
I’m satisfied. A meaningful thing happened to me this week. I managed to teach you how to read better.
First, I used ChatGPT to come up with this story.
I cleverly inserted these three words that have the -ly suffix: dejectedly, diligently and eagerly. We practised how to cut these unfamiliar words into their constituent syllables.
After that, we made use of the meaning of -ly to help us unpack these words.
We observed that these are Clunk words. We then read the sentence that followed a Clunk word to find contextual clues.
From his eyes seemed wet, we inferred that dejectedly = in a sad way.
From trying so hard, we inferred that diligently = in an effortful way.
From grabbed markers excitedly, we inferred that eagerly = in an excited way.
The next lesson, we focused on answering questions. We revised the 5W1H.
I think that associating each question word with an image helps us understand the question requirements clearly. So, we can answer these questions better.
I look forward to using Word Attack Strategies and Clunk with you guys. I hope that you become confident in using them.
Anyway, I have to go now. Talk to you soon!
Love, Sensei
