Let's face it: it's a matter of time until this site is invaded and destroyed by normies. Are you guys ready for it?
Are you ready for reality show spaces and celebrity mid-wittery on the front page?

Wouldn't the way the website is designed mean that you continue to see the content from people that you trust? Sorry if I don't understand this well enough

I think posting fees will be an effective deterrent for a lot of that. Remember, also, that you are part of the reward system #523858, so zap more of what you want to see.
I share @davidw's view #539622 that Stacker News can be one of the biggest Bitcoin on-ramps. We should embrace that challenge.

This, and I would just customize my SN front page etc. to my liking.

The Bugle is standing by to defend the site from Normies

People have been saying this for SN's entire existence. Why hasn't it happened yet?
reply
People (normal people) are just starting to get their heads around what are Bitcoin, wallets and blockchain. Next step is learning about lightning. Are you ready?
reply
I'm ready to stop that carnage with ally might. So, don't worry.
Also, I don't want to discriminate by calling someone normies. SN has such a huge advantage of saving itself from any attack. See the downzap, that's what shield means.
reply
If those who write stuff other than Bitcoin are considered normies as well?
In that case, I would also be a normie? Also I don't know if I'm ready or not. So a 'Neutral' option is needed.
reply

Pick a side, pal.

reply
I'm ready. I'm curious do admins and servers ready?
reply
They will all go to Nostr before SN. This is a good thing. SN will continue to get harder to use and the barrier to entry will be higher. High time pref people will give up and go to something simpler.
reply
No way. It wont happen because normies dont want to get into bitcoin.
reply
they won't have this option in the near future
reply
hopefully it is fully adopted by then.
reply
Bitcoin has already been invaded by normies and taken over by NGU-obsessed fiat apologists and ossificationists excited about trading nation state shitcoins on a permissioned Lightning network.
reply
Who are normies in your vision? Can you please tell?
reply
reply
I don't think too many normies will be joining SN. They will be talking about price on twitter and reddit.
reply
you are underestimating hustle people and poor people with time on their hands.
"Can I make money posting about - picks card - Milly Bobby Brown?"
reply
I would be happy to be wrong. SN is an excellent gateway to learn about bitcoin and to become ingrained in the bitcoin ecosystem. While it may be frustrating to have normies around at first, I would rather see them here learning and engaging with bitcoiners than watching some youtube influencers or getting shilled the endless scams that will come out of the woodwork in a parabolic run up.
reply
Just realized the scammers would move in with the normies...
reply
IDK, I don't think smoothbrains would get the attention that they crave here. And quality content will always get zapped more (and more exposure). But we'll see. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic.
reply
with enough morons you can form an army that will reply to each other.
reply
I hope so so so bad that SN isn't going to end up like Reddit or Bitcoin Talk...
I'd probably be done with "Social media" forever.
reply
be strong in these difficult times

"It would be an improvement over the brain rot I have seen here."
Oh?
"I don't understand, do you guys want people in on Bitcoin or not?"
Depends, are they willing to put in the hours and learn about Bitcoin? Or are they going to whine because it isn't as comfortable and easy as their bank account?
"Why are you so allergic to new people joining and so tribalistic?"
People somehow need a common enemy; Left - Right, vegetarians - carnivores, Bitcoiners - Shitcoiners (and a whole bunch more)... I don't know why, but I'd definitely like to.
"How can you hold this mental framework in your head while preaching that Bitcoin is for everyone and we need to onboard as many people as possible?"
Never said it's for anyone, and I don't know why people preach that, as it's far from being that user-friendly, and it maybe never will.
It's a responsibility-issue, too, IMHO, people simply aren't responsible (enough).
reply
This seems far from a BTC Maxi point of view. We have to cater to those who aren’t as capable of seeing the truth. We have to show them, painstakingly if that’s what it takes.
We can’t talk about orange-pill this and orange-pill that if we give up as soon as they don’t agree.
reply
And what exactly are you rambling on about?
reply
reply
Okay I'm currently in a bad mood and didn't directly get what you're aiming at, care to explain?
reply
I too feel that we need to onboard as many people as possible. We have to have that mindset if we want Bitcoin adoption.
We have to make it as user-friendly as possible for that to happen.
Basically, just baby-steps.
I agree that it’s about responsibility, the learned to teach and the ignorant to learn?
reply
You can only make it that friendly to use, and I don't even think it's that difficult to learn, all we need is a sort of financial / Bitcoin school.
That's what I thought.
reply
I didn't say more people was bad, just that normies are numerous and their activity will change things around.
