my god is this a funny trade. HASHTAG @mega_dreamer, leeessgooo:
if Jesus Christ does return this year, are you really going to want to go to the online crypto prediction market to collect your gambling winnings?
Yes.
Lightning-based gambles like Predyx doesn't really have this issue, since I can keep holding some lightning balance _with the casino forecast market or holding it non-custodially in a channel I control. Not that big of a deal, no interest-rate opportunity cost for me.
NEAT!
Very lolz... how to trade the end of the world...
One (dumb, but funny) way to put this is that the “Yes, Jesus Christ will return in 2025” contract is a bet on interest rates going up: If short-term interest rates went up to 8%, the No contract would be worth about $0.95, so the Yes contract would be worth about $0.05 and you’d make a 40% profit.
It was never about the money, but sending a message!
Apparently, this trade comes about because Polymarket allows you to combine a Yes and a No contracts to $1... instant, infinite money. What a beauty

I wonder what oracle they use for the result.
Some Craig Wright can’t just turn up and say he’s Jesus and then the bet settles Yes.

The major problem, definitely

You didn't see it yet?

Noooo! My god, what. Let's YOLO in

I figure that if it resolves “yes” then I’ll have bigger problems and likely won’t miss the bitcoin.

First impression: wow, this is nice, organic, beautiful bitcoin yield, exceeding the interest rate of a high-yield savings account or Treasuries. (Buying the No has a 4.9% return from now until the end of the year, roughly a 10% APY.) Better yet, it's a Lightning balance that I wouldn't be doing anything with anyway (so practically, hurdle rate is 0%).
Second impression: hm, counterparty risk. I'm beholden for this yield on the well-functioning work of Predyx (#998327). What if @mega_dreamer rugs me...? What if, like the chess bets, they don't resolve/pay out...?
edit: lol, I'm an idiot. Didn't check Predyx or my wallet, and apparently they WERE just resolved.

...and now I just kind of convinced myself to add to my position, LOL!

lol - sorry it took us a while to resolve. We were dealing with some major technical issues and got side-tracked.
A major update is coming out his weekend or sooner:
  • better portfolio page to track your assets, activity and transactions.
  • better market navigation with pagination.
  • better market filters
I started out with much smaller wagers, for exactly that reason.
