Predyx dropped in a new market for The Hundred Men's Competition 2025 and stackers got too curious about it being very different from regular Cricket, which it is and it's not. To me it's not much different because it's played in the same way with same equipments as other formats of Cricket. Still to clear any cloud, I'm here...
First watch the video to understand what's different, if it doesn't satisfy your curiousity, read below as well.
I hope the video explains to you about the rules of The Hundred, but in case it doesn't here's a scoop in writing as well.
The Hundred was introduced in 2021 by England and Wales Cricket board (ECB) to mostly lure the newer and younger generation by making Cricket more entertaining (as they thought). But why? They already had a T20 legue - was it not so popular? Yes, the T20 legue by ECB had failed to attract as much attention as IPL or Big Bash enjoys. It's not that ECB didn't try to upgrade their T20 legue to make it more acceptable but it didn't pick up as it lacked the star power and is played among all the domestic English Teams which are more than 20 so it runs for around 3 months a year and make it impossible to create a free window for international players to opt in.
All these reasons mentioned above made ECB think of a month long tournament with only 8 teams. They also wanted to align Women's Cricket to Men's with mens and womens games played on the same day for the same franchise. So they made it a little shorter. A T20 game runs for 120 balls each side and requires a gameplay time of around 3 hours and 15 minutes. But in The Hundred because it's only played for 100 balls each side, the time reduced (to 2.5 hours) gave opportunity for men's and women's game to be played simultaneously on the same day with only about 6 hours required.
People in England took this new format with a lot of enthusiasm unlike their other domestic tournaments. I think they mostly picked it up for they introduced similar prize amounts for Men's and Women's Cricket tournament for the first time. The rules of Cricket tweaked to shorten the time gave new flair to Cricket as well. The shorter duration of the tournament also allowed a small window so that star players can opt in for The Hundred.
The rules that are different to T20 Cricket are:
  • It's played for 100 balls whereas T20 has 120 balls for each team.
  • In T20 we have a concept of overs with 6 balls in each, whereas in the Hundred we don't have overs. Instead, each bowler can ball a maximum of 20 balls in 2-4 attempts.
  • Unlike T20 where we have two timeouts of 150 seconds, The Hundred has only one strategic timeout of 90 seconds.
  • It has a 25-ball powerplay for each team unlike T20 where we have it for 6 overs or 36 balls.
  • Two fielders are allowed outside of the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay.
  • A no ball penalties 2 runs on the bowling side unlike T20 where it does only 1 run.
  • The fielding side change ends after 10 balls. In T20 it's done after every 6 balls.
  • In the hundred whoever scores the most runs wins, same as T20. Winning teams get two points, while losing teams get zero points. Sometimes both teams will score the same number of runs. This is a tie. Teams get one point each for a tie which doesn't happen in T20 as it has Super over and other norms to decide a winner. Teams also get one point each if weather or other circumstances prevent the match from finishing.
So that's it. I guess this is enough and I hope you now understand the difference between the Hundred and T20. In case you still have any doubts, please drop in your comments, I'll be glad to answer in detail.
Thank you.

Yes. Very informative.
I am surprised there are no overs. I thought it would just be 5 ball overs.
