Do you think it’s important to spend time with your family?
I answered this question using the TREES structure to help prepare my fifth graders for their upcoming oral exam:
Thought: I think it is important to spend time with my family because our hectic schedules usually don’t allow us to come together and check in with one another.
Reason: Hence, if we don’t intentionally take time out to interact with one another, we may find that the distance between us grows with time. Our loved ones may feel like strangers, and chatting with them may even feel awkward.
Explain: When we spend time together on family outings, we get to enjoy one another’s company and create precious shared memories.
Experience: For example, I visited the Singapore Zoo with my extended family from Japan during the September holidays. We had a whale of a time admiring the animals. Laughter flowed easily and taking the perfect wefie was immensely fun. I think the release of the happiness hormone, endorphins, was beneficial for my well-being.
Suggestion: With all this in mind, I recommend that families find opportunities to plan outings that will strengthen their bonds. After all, having close family ties alleviates stress and boosts happiness.
I'm pretty good about spending time with my wife and kid, but beyond that I definitely avoid spending time with any other family.
I don't think that's good, though.

I actually thought you live pretty close to your parents.
I remember you sharing that your mum’s ways drive you crazy sometimes
reply
I do, but I still avoid them

Extended family can be weird. I come from a big family. I used to spend time with more of them, but I find that as my children get older, we are doing more things on our own (however, we still see some family pretty much every week, and have big get togethers multiple times throughout the year...so not exactly avoiding them).

I think it’s natural to spend more time with your kids now since their needs are more complex than when they were preschoolers. Also good to lock in some emotional bank deposits before they grow into sullen teens and start to pull away from you and your wife

Great work, without a doubt you do with excellence your work to educate more younger ones. 👏
The family is and should always be the most important.
It is fascinating to find families that maintain good connections and regularly plan to spend time together or do activities together.

I think it doesn’t take much to make preschoolers happy. Just need to find a large space for them to run amok haha

I consider that it is one of the most difficult work. Having to guide several children at the same time in an early age is simply not an easy task. 🙌🤠

My family’s game nights always bring us closer, much like your zoo outing. We play charade, monopoly and then some. Any other fun family activities you recommend?"

Are the museums in your country free of charge? I find that they sometimes organise children-centric programmes that my children would like

I think it is important to carefully define what the word "family" means.

For sure, some biological family members can be toxic, which makes it wise for us to cut off ties with them
