I don't have time to game like I used to, but I sure am glad I played it.
It's an art masterpiece. There's so much attention to detail and a level of "giving a damn" about it I haven't seen often.
And although it's not about the game itself, I like the story behind the studio coming together. Basically Ubisoft employees tired of making the same AAA slop breaking away, recruiting passionate people off forums and Soundcloud, that kind of thing... and somehow, they create something like E33.
It just makes me hopeful that such a small team (32 people + 1 dog = 33), with a fraction of the typical AAA budget, can achieve a game like that. GOTY would be well-deserved, all things considered.
As a Final Fantasy fan, I also like that they kind of proved to SquareEnix that it's possible to do a turn based JRPG that still has some modern and reactive elements and that that whole genre doesn't need to be completely thrown out as dated.
Anyway. Good game. Didn't mean to hijack a Silksong thread :P
Agree with everything you said.
Unreal Engine 5 is really turning into a cheat code for smaller developers. Technology advancements are doing wonders and allowing smaller passionate teams to create high quality "indie" games that rival the AAA standard.
I feel they can make a movie out of how this game got made. With all the quitting Ubisoft and hiring ex colleagues to make a game that they want to play themselves. Finding their music composer/director from SoundCloud and their lead writer on Reddit. To how no one was interested in funding / publishing their game, to finally securing funding and convincing Kepler to publish it.

True, but at least they might make one for the game itself :

I'm pretty sure the gamers here on SN appreciate any gaming discussion, regardless of what thread it's on :)

Indeed. As you may or may not have noticed, I'm quite into gaming and would love to have gaming discussions about any game anywhere.

Ah, I should have asked--- what are you playing right now?

I've been playing Donkey Kong Banaza with my sons on the Switch 2. I'm close to finishing the main story of the game and will probably move onto Silksong after I'm done with the main quest of Donkey Kong.
I'm playing Stellar Blade on my PC, that is the one I'm trying to finish now. But I would hop back on Black Myth Wukong, Expedition 33, or Monster Hunter Wilds every now and then whenever I feel like it.

Ah, yeah, my kids were super into DK Bananza when it first came out! They beat it pretty quickly! I started and only got to the 2nd world. But I don't have too much time to play and have mostly been working on finishing out some runs of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (a quite old game by this point, but one of my favorites)

Just went to check out Pathfinder on Steam. Looks like a fun game. It was on sale, so I bought it. Hopefully I'll be able to find time to play it soon, haha.

Cool! Yeah, I love it for the story and choices you can make which actually affect the story, and the sheer amount of flexibility you can have in building your character.
But be warned: it's very wonky and mainly targeted at people with pretty hardcore experience with the Pathfinder / D&D system. New players sometimes get lost with information and options overload since the system is complex and not well explained.
On the plus side, there is very flexible difficulty customization, so you can play it as casually or as hardcore as you like.

Will hit you up if I got questions.
