And that distinctly distinguishes your family from other families?
My father-in-law drinks beer for lunch and dinner. I have grown accustomed to searching for eateries that sell beer whenever we go out for meals. No beer no life = his mantra.
Both my children like to bring along a toy with them when they go out. I think my elder son started this habit because he loves all his toys, and my daughter grew up to inherit his habit. The toy is like a comfort blanket to them, I reckon. I see it as a good thing because they sometimes entertain themselves with their toys while waiting for food to be served. Less screen time is always a win!
Sincerely nothing to highlight with pride. All my family rituals of origin are related to excessive consumerism in which they have submerged to society. Birthday, national holidays or anything else imposed by the system so that we are distracted and spending energy. (They go to the call with alcohol and expense)
I stay on the sidelines, and that they keep the model.
The only thing I usually participate in without hesitation, is at Christmas and at the level of my internal family (wife and daughter).
And I do it because I think the family is the most important. See my little daughter's happy face and be able to spend time with my wife. in activities that we have scheduled.

Your father-in-law's - no beer, no life - mantra is hilarious and gives him such a distinct vibe - love how you've embraced it by scoping out beer-friendly spots.
