SPONSOR ME
A social networking platform designed for athletes to showcase their talent and connect with potential sponsors, recruiters, and schools.
Key Features: • Athlete Highlight Videos: Upload a 1–3 minute video of yourself explaining why you should be sponsored, along with a highlight reel of your skills. • Sports Categories: Athletes are organized by sport (baseball, basketball, surfing, etc.), making it easy for sponsors to find talent. • Athlete Profiles: Create a custom profile that includes your stats, achievements, and a link to your Instagram or other social platforms to highlight your following. • Baseball Card Style Layout: Profiles are designed like collectible cards, displaying athlete stats and accomplishments at a glance. • Recruitment Opportunities: Schools can browse profiles to discover and recruit athletes. • Sponsor Access: Both new and established companies can easily connect with athletes of all levels who might otherwise go unnoticed. • Networking Community: A social platform where athletes, sponsors, and schools can interact, creating new opportunities for recognition and support.

Definitely an interesting idea. Do you know what the current process is. Is it usually done through agents?
reply
That’s the beauty of this it gives everyone a fair shot of being recognized.

Cool idea. What's the existing process for an athlete to get sponsored? Do they have to hire an agent?
reply
The idea is to be able to get noticed with having to know somebody. It used to be sending in a video and praying someone watched it. Now anyone can

Pretty cool idea!
My suggestion is perhaps slightly unethical, but...maybe you could bootstrap this by creating profiles for players without necessarily asking them.
Pick some underserved sport or segment and then make Sponsor me the best/ most comprehensive resource for it.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for tagging me! I feel like it’s a sign from the universe since I read chapter 4 (Sports: the Mindset of a Champion) from the iconic book written by Dr. Carol Dweck. I feel that the app could benefit from a section titled Grittiness (or words to this effect). Something that allows the athlete to explain how s/he has bounced back from failures and eats setbacks for breakfast. How s/he remains a hero despite defeat

For the sponsor side of the platform, create powerful filtering tools. Let sponsors search not just by sport, but by location, age, specific stats that an athlete can select.

I like the way you’re thinking

Consider launching with a focus on one or two underserved sports or a specific geographic region first. Build a dense, high-quality network there, create a success story, and then expand.

The first question I would ask is…Does he have any experience building in this segment? Or a way to reach or onboard athletes into this app?
reply
I do not have experience in building an app to accomplish this but I have a lot of connections to professional athletes and want to explorer this concept.

Have you thought about a pricing model at all for this app?
reply
Yes was thinking subscription based for both the athletes and sponsors.

Have you built a company or have experience building a business before?
reply
I ran my own business for 13 years doing all my own advertising. The thing is if you believe in something you can make it happen!

@Car this was a reply to your comment

What is the target level of athlete? Junior high / high school / college / semi-pro / college?
And what does the market competition look like? I imagine there are some other apps that try to do similar things. Or maybe there aren't!
This seems like a pretty fun idea. The stats would probably need some sort of verification standard, which may or may not be difficult to get depending on the sport. You'd likely have to do a lot of research for each sport in each state, for example.
reply
I suppose we are targeting all ages but must be skilled beyond average. A lot of people get overlooked due to so many talented people with connections and I want it to be fair for others to have a chance.

The baseball card-style profiles sound super engaging. One thought: maybe add a gamification element, like badges for athletes who hit certain milestones (e.g., profile completion, video views, or sponsor connections). It could boost engagement.

Love it

It would be cool if you could link biometric data from fitness tracker apps to their submitted workout videos.
I'm not sure that's information scouts currently get to access. It sort of lets them peak under the hood.
