One thing I don't get in all of this, especially after what happened to Trump, is you have a couple guys standing behind Charlie watching the crowd for close proximity threats. Why don't they have a guy watching for long range threats. I mean the roof of the building the supposed shot came from was right in front of them. Shouldn't a guy with binoculars be watching that roof?
I know they aren't going to have the same level of security for a college campus event as they would for a Trump rally but seems like a pretty glaring oversight not to have one guy watching for long range threats.

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20. You bring up a good point. Why wasn't the security for Trump better? I get why it wasn't for Kirk. Turning Point is well funded but it isn't the US Secret Service. I think it is easy for us to not realize how vulnerable we all are.
I was reminded while listening to No Agenda this week how many assassination attempts we have actually had from the 60s into the 80s. There were a LOT of politically motivated violence throughout those decades.
I don't have a hard time believing security details are not good. Especially when I hear that Kirk's friend was the head of it... All of the criticisms are fair but they don't me jump to the conclusion that it was an inside job.
After 911 there were a LOT of really dumb things done to "do something" to secure different places. Its a joke. Many men were stationed places to "watch" for terrorists. If there were the number of terrorists wanting to kill Americans that we were told we would have had MANY more events. We are very lucky they were lying about all that. There are only a handful of people that have both the motive, skill, and drive to do stuff like this. Most people aren't mentally ill enough to do it. That's our only saving grace.
Believe me. We are super vulnerable both on the physical and technical sides. I think we over-estimate our security and security people and over-estimate how many people want to kill others.

Exactly! This is the point of terrorism. Even people with security are either very exposed very often or they're extremely restricted in where they go.

I know enough military guys that would agree with me on this. Most security is more of a deterrent that a bullet proof shield.
I think the Trump assassination attempt probably opened a lot of eyes as to how its not that hard with modern tools and weak security. I suspect we will see more copy-cats.
Same with schools. I have said this so much in private conversations that I don't even do so here. School violence could be stopped but we don't wanna spend the money. All the gun control doesn't matter. Its fools that have no clue pushing for that or cynical political actors. Police stations do not get shot up. Why? Because they are full of armed men.
But we would rather pretend that reality doesn't exist and live in fair land where gun rules will protect us from evil.
I have heard that many politicians are now asking for more security. I hate to say it but I think we will see more of this until it can be shown to be stopped. We saw this in the 60s and 70s and into the 80s. It happens in other countries. I hope we don't see a right wing shooter do something similar. I pray we don't see any more of this but I am not that hopeful.

It's part of a larger trend of moving towards a low-trust society. If you think about how vulnerable you are most of the time, you realize what keeps you safe is that almost no one wants to commit violent acts.
Society would grind to a halt if we had to actually take meaningful security measures throughout our days.

Bingo. But we are propagandized and have been for decades now about how unsafe we are. There's a reason. Power. Fear is how you gain power.
Its done by both sides too. And its going to led to tyranny. I immediately thought this after Kirk was shot.
Its like this person or people are trying to create what they claim to fear. Are they trying to push Trump into being an even more of strong man type figure? Are they trying to guarantee that his successor is even more heavy handed?
Trump isn't an ideologue. He's none of the names they call him. He's a dude that wants to do stuff and doesn't care about your politics. But, because of this he can be dangerous. What is more dangerous is how many people I see rejecting the idea that we should limit the state. People cheering on imprisonment without a fair trial. People cheering on violent action because they believe they have been wronged.
Its not good. I have been concerned about this stuff for at least 10 years now and it seems to be speeding up. Its why I'm in favor of national peaceful divorce. The alternative is civil war. I was saying this to friends in 2016 and they laughed. I was saying this in 2020 and they laughed less. I was saying this in 2024 and they laughed like 2020 didn't happen. I don't even want to say it any more. I see it happening already.

The way DC is responding, it's pretty clear there are strong influences that want more control over security, speech, organizing, etc.

This aligns with the movements already in play around Internet speech.
No matter the problem. The solution is always more statism. More authoritarianism. Doesn't matter who is in power. That's what we get.
Internet IDs are close. Nostr and Bitcoin are gonna be more important than ever.

I am not saying it means it was an inside job. I am just saying it is a legitimate question. I am sure it is not easy to fully secure every possible threat scenario in an open space with thousands of people but seems like an obvious oversight for professionals to miss. There are a lot of people that aren't good at their jobs. I mean someone could have been assigned to it and he was talking to girls in the crowd or trading shitcoins on his phone instead and not paying attention.

100%. I agree with those that said the same thing about Trump's security detail.
I mean someone could have been assigned to it and he was talking to girls in the crowd or trading shitcoins on his phone instead and not paying attention.
This is far more likely than a grand conspiracy. At least from what I've seen so far. I have no problem believing in conspiracy theories. I just need evidence.

That, to me, is one of the most suspicious things.
Why on EARTH wouldn't you at least have a couple drones up there, buzzing around? They're are SO CHEAP now and SO EASY.
That absolutely doesn't make sense.

That dude is unhinged in some of what he is "documenting". Some of these dudes need some years on them. Way to confident in themselves.

Wouldn't surprise me. I didn't put much stock in it, but publishing to nostr at least creates a somewhat permanent documentation. We might at least have some confidence that what we're looking at wasn't altered after the fact.

100%. I have been reading it and rolling my eyes. But I'm glad people are able to put stuff out there. Unlike many, I support freedom of speech, freedom to be hateful, and freedom to be an idiot.
I say... let them talk. Let them talk. Only the weak try to shut people up with violence.
