"It's going up forever, Laura."

It's not.

Number go up

reply

Isn't this used more in a derogatory sense?

reply

It might be around SN... but I have heard NGU tech over and over again.

reply

"NGU tech"? What the heck does that even mean

Bitcoin tech. That's what they mean. Its dumb. Or I'm just getting old. Honestly, so many memes are dumb and I think make most people more dumb. People don't read or really have depth of knowledge on most subjects these days. That majority that is. Its never been easier to educate one's self and yet most are too lazy.

reply

Memes are very powerful though. I wonder if they need to be dumb to be powerful?

Can you think of a non-dumb meme?

Memes are ancient too. I didn't mean to blame memes but rather modernity.

reply

One of my favorites

reply

Well, but this is a joke, yeah? A meme is some replicable idea that carries meaning. This would have to become a widespread shorthand for understanding philosophers.

The philosophers stone is a meme.

Yeah, I especially don't like this one because it invites trading for fiat.

"Bitcoin fixes this"

Makes people passive and waiting for shit to happen instead of making shit happen.

It should be "Bitcoiner fixes this".

reply

Bitcoin fixes root problems bitcoiners can't fix but I agree with you about it being an excuse to be passive.

Most bitcoin memes are great but get blown out and distorted.

reply

Of course, i'm not saying bitcoin doesnt fix some(a lot) of problems but it is primarily a tool for free and productive people to make things better

We skipped the second part of ppl.making shit happen and settled on NGU/ETF celebrations and buying lambos

reply

Yeah, for sure. Like I said, many of these come from a good place but the problem with memes and our culture in general is the memes are shallow and easy to be misunderstood.

I have found many bitcoiners do not realize the cascading effects that cheap credit / fiat have on societies. But... it does not fix everything. I think we agree though. Its blown out.

came here to say this :)

HFSP

It's a little mean spirited - especially when directed a nocoiners. I'll only use it when someone understands bitcoin well but dismisses it because it isn't perfect in some narrow dimension.

reply

I have never liked this one. Its use should be very narrow as you say.

reply

It's also self defeating because it suggests that the entire purpose of bitcoin is for its price to go up faster than other assets.

"1 BTC = 1 BTC" is the worst, you hear this cope repeated whenever the price goes down.

reply

I see the desire to use bitcoin as one's unit of account, but its not a good look when used opposite "to the moon"

BITCONNEEEEEECTTTTT!!!!

"To the moon!"

This mostly said by shitcoiners now but I'm sure it started with bitcoiners. It leads one to think that we are waiting for a moonshot to sell for fiat. I do not like it and I have never heard a bitcoiner I respect use it.

reply

I hate when people use "moon" as a verb non-ironically

Why?

It's crypto's participation trophy - endlessly recycled during every 20% pullback, but it ignores that timing markets is a sucker's game.

reply

The thread in this post's comments is shitcoiners not getting the original idea of these memes.

"When Lambo?"

It represents the get-rich-quick attitude that some of the more technically-minded or long-term believers try to distance themselves from.

reply

Hodl.

I love this meme. Possibly my favorite bitcoin meme, but people forget that it was created by a trader and it wasn't about morality.

I take it as an acknowledgement that Gamekyuubi wasn't going to be able to compete with the traders but he didn't have to because he understood the fundamentals.

To me hodl means don't try to be a smarty pants player. Stick with what you understand about bitcoin. It's not a battlecry, it's a reminder that you aren't smarter than everyone else.

reply

Probably 'HODL' not because it's wrong, but because it's become a blanket excuse for ignoring market dynamics..

10 sats \ 1 reply \ @kepford 3 Oct

Its not? I mean... as long as people are measuring in Fiat. They will never stop inflating fiat and bitcoin has a fixed supply.

reply

Yep. It just depends on your resolution and measurement stick. Pick any 4 year period and I believe it's gone up. This is not a "get rich quick" scheme. It's a "don't get debased" scheme. And there'a 1% chance something better will come along, but probably not sooner than "forever" for most people. I mean if we all get our own personal nuclear reactor and a team of droids to help us beat nature, then there's really no need for money at that point, is there?
