I guarantee you I know the Bible better than you do. I actually went to a private Christian college, it's what pushed me into atheism.
And most slave owners did not want their slaves to learn how to read or are you that stupid you don't know basic history. I misspoke in my previous comment, slave owners forced slaves to attend reading sessions of the Bible where they were read passages from the Bible.
Still don’t see how that’s bad.
Which countries ended slavery first?
The answer is White (mostly Christian) countries.
Which countries can you still find slavery in today?
African and Arabic countries.
reply
There is still a very large amount of sex slavery that happens in the U.S.
And it's "Arab" countries. The reason for this is they are very poor and most of that slavery is also sex slavery.
Also, this country never has and never will be a Christian nation. Our founding fathers believed in separation of church and state and freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion.
reply
All of the founding fathers were Christian. They believed in liberty. Bastiat and others said Liberty is belief and faith in God.
Not forcing people to do things is a main feature of Christian values.
reply
If that's true, then why are you attempting to legislate in this country based on biblical law and forcing people to live the way the Bible says? If you believe in freedom of religion then that means ANY religion or non religion. You can't say that you're for not forcing people to do things then supporting making laws that prevent/force people from/to doing things.

Who is doing that? The 1st amendment RESTRICTS the US government from making laws like that. Which is good.
The problem is that “Democracy” is eroding this principle- Trump is a good example of that process.
I am personally a Christian both spiritually and politically. I think the earthly government and State should be peacefully abolished and we should await the renewal of the earth recognizing only the Kingship of Christ.
reply
Who is doing that? Are you that naive? In Louisiana there was a law passed mandating the ten commandments be put up in every public school classroom which is being challenged in court.
The speaker of the house Mike Johnson put a restriction on trans female representative Sarah Mcbride from using the female bathroom because his faith doesn't agree with her lifestyle.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has stated the court should take another look at same sex marriage because it goes against his Christian beliefs.
The supreme Court just recently overturned the right to abortion based on religious arguments and some states have put very restrictive abortion laws in place.
Public schools in the deep south have banned books in school libraries because they aren't "Christian approved."
Wake up.

Those people were popularly elected by your “democracy” and now you have a problem with what they are doing, but you don’t matter at all- since the majority voted for them- that makes it right! That’s how democracy works!
The only thing protecting you from what you fear is the non-democratic, republican foundation of government in this country.
If you got your way about “no kings” and all authority was given to votes and democracy- your freedoms would evaporate in less than a decade.
reply
First of all. None of the supreme court justices were elected, so try again. That's something that needs to change.
#2, Louisiana is a red state. I don't live in Louisiana thank God. We have red and blue states in this country. But it's seemingly only the conservative "Christian" politicians that are doing unconstitutional things.
Democracy and the people having the power is the only way you get true freedoms. Like I said, if you want to live in an autocracy there are numerous countries you can move to.
The problem in this country now is that corporations and organizations can pour an unlimited amount of money into a political candidate's campaign. We live in an oligarchy really. Elon Musk bought Trump the election for the most part by pouring over a billion dollars into his 2024 presidential campaign.
If you are a Christian politically then I assume you support asylum seekers and refugees and believe no human being is illegal?
reply
That verse applies to oppressing foreigners- meaning we need to stop bombing Gaza and killing people in other countries.
In no way does the Bible suggest we are supposed to abdicate our stewardship and allow invaders to take our property.
Again, I’m not sure who you think you are arguing with, but in your mind the best way to understand what I am politically would be “a completely non-violent anarchist”
reply
Asylum seekers and refugees aren't invaders. Neither are undocumented immigrants who have lived here without any criminality for years upon years.
You are misinterpreting that Bible verse to fit your narrative. Typical.
And the founding fathers with deists who believed in religious freedom. They fled religious prosecution remember.
