I tend to post here every time I hit some new, nice all-time high (#1271286, #1306859)

ONCE MORE WE ARE HEREONCE MORE WE ARE HERE

I'm posting it already now because OF FUCKING COURSE I fell prey to the "just one more game, maybe I can actually hit 1700..." only to throw literally a HUNDRED GODDAMN POINTS out the window.

This is absurd: (almost) 1700 is a legit rating. Last 7 days = 234 games, for 33 a day... (last 30 and 90 days I'm averaging about 20 a day), so a little much -- and I confess there was one or two evenings/nights where I destroyed my rating and played til 3 in the morning to recover. Fucking pathetic.

Also, clearly manipulated... about as manipulated as the bitcoin price.

Insights says that in the last 30 days I had 25 (!!) "brilliant" moves, but most of those are probably in the queen-sac line of the Jobava London that I play a lot... and shockingly, it has carried me all the way from 1200 to here.

toggled between 3 minute and 5 minute games, I've noticed that I get out of the opening OK and when I lose I either miss some tactic in the middle game... or run out of time (way less often in 5-minute games). I'm too goddamn slow!

Come challenge me on chess.com, Stackers (under the "denlillaapan" nym)

I'll leave you with this, I'm playing black and it's my turn: stockfish says it's forced mate in 10. Find the winning idea!

Congrats on the new highs.

thank you, FREN! Appreciate the applause

I wasn't able to find the full winning line, but I got this far, and confirmed that my instincts were correct

  1. ... Qe1+
  2. Rd1 Qxd1
  3. Bc1 Rxa2

What I wasn't sure was what white would do next, but checking with the engine it just appears that white's position is just horrible in general, and there are many forced mates from there.

reply

Yup, there are just so many routes and they all lead to mate.

At least you got the idea to sac the rook. In the game, my opponent didn't even block with the pieces to delay the inevitable but went Kb2, so sacrificing the rook on a2 comes with a check... Next rook replaces it, and then queen delivered mate in the corner

reply

Blocking would have been good because with Kb2 I can automatically see the mate. With the blocking, even though they lose material, I couldn't see the forced mate as that's still 7 moves out. There's a chance I would have misplayed

reply

Technically white can block with rook check with the queen, too, on a4. White will obvs lose but it'll take a bit longer navigating to the exact mate
