In 2026, South Korea officially banned bear bile farming, ending a decades old practice that kept bears confined for bile extraction. The decision follows years of domestic and international pressure and marks a significant policy shift toward stronger wildlife protection and modern animal welfare standards.

Do you think this ban will actually improve bear welfare long term, or just move the practice elsewhere?

I did not know bear bile was a thing.

Same here it’s unsettling to realize how many practices stay invisible until they’re suddenly banned, the worse part is when banning doesn't make a difference

I want to believe it helps the bears, but I’m wary we’ve seen too many “bans” that just export cruelty somewhere quieter.

I actually agree with you banning won't stop cruelty against wildlife and endangered animals
